The
$301 million expansion at All Childrens Hospital
is the most ambitious expansion in the hospitals
history. The project includes a nine-story childrens
hospital with helipad, an adjacent medical office building,
a central energy plant and a parking garage. The centerpiece
is the $270 million, 10-level hospital, which has 240
private patient rooms, 96 NICU Beds, an Emergency Department
and an Integrated Outpatient Care Center. Immediately
adjacent to the hospital is the 147,000-sf medical office
building. Constructed at a cost of $31 million, this integrated
outpatient care center houses diagnostics (MRI, open MRI,
CT and PET/CT), rehabilitative and therapy services and
doctors offices. Covered parking for 1,000 vehicles
adjoin both the hospital and the MOB. Serving the cooling
needs of the facilities are three 1,500-ton chillers,
while heating requirements for both HVAC and domestic
water are via three 400-bhp natural gas-fired steam boilers.
Both the hospital and central plant have full electrical
redundancy, with six 2,000 kW generators, providing 100%
power for life safety systems and critical hospital functions.
All major equipment in the central energy plant is designed
with N+1 redundancy. The central plant is designed to accommodate
an additional chiller, boiler and two generators for future
expansion without additional square footage.
