Serving
fast-growing south Duval and northern St. Johns counties,
this new six-story hospital features a full service Emergency
Department, Radiology, Outpatient Surgery, and a Womens
Center. It has 92 suites including 12 maternity, eight
ICU, and an 18-bed day stay area. Ambient lighting creates
a soothing environment in patient care areas and an energy-saving
dimming system regulates light levels based on the amount
of daylighting in the lobby and atrium. Energy-efficiency
and flexibility were key goals in designing the central
energy plant. Two high-efficiency 750-ton chillers and
one dual-cell cooling tower serve the hospitals
1,500-ton load. The mechanical systems include a 15-ton
chiller specially designed to remove the heat generated
from the high-powered MRI equipment. Backup power for
the hospital is supplied by a 1,500-kw emergency generator.
