Buena Vida Estates is a continuing care retirement community that provides independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing care. Having all three levels of care in one location allows residents to remain in the same community as their health needs or the needs of their spouse change, without life-disrupting moves.sites. In response to growing needs, Buena Vida embarked on a $25 million expansion and renovation that increased the size of the community from 151,000 sf to 242,000 sf. The campus-style community now has 150 apartment homes from studios to expansive two-bedroom units. Each apartment is equipped with a full kitchen, individually controlled heat and air conditioning, and an emergency alarm system in bedrooms and bathrooms. Expansion of the Commons Building required the removal of the existing electrical transformers and installation of new ones north of the Assisted Living Facility. The new transformers were installed first allowing for the main building service to be refed from the existing transformers, thus minimizing electrical service disruption. The buildings and the MEP systems are designed to operate on emergency power for at least four days.
