To meet the demands of a growing population, changing demographics and an increase in emergency room visits, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center embarked on a new 12-story, 245-bed replacement hospital in Daytona Beach. In addition to the replacement hospital, TLC designed the adjoining five-story medical office building and new central plant. The need for adequate space was a primary concern when master-planning the new facilities. All of the patient rooms will be private and sized to comfortably accommodate patients, visitors and equipment. The number of operating rooms will increase to 15 while the Emergency Department will expand by nearly 20,000 sf and house 52 bays. Imaging, diagnostic and ancillary spaces will also increase. Shell space is set aside to accommodate 75 future beds. The Heart Center will contain a 14-bed cardiovascular critical care unit and a 36-bed coronary critical care unit. The central energy plant is designed for future expansion and serves both the hospital and medical office building.
