Flexible spaces, universal patient rooms, and state-of-the-art engineering will make the new 214-bed Mayo Clinic Hospital one of the top teaching and research hospitals in the country. The six-story hospital, which is vertically expandable to 16 levels, will have 22 operating rooms. The MEP design allows for flexibility to support new technologies and evolving methods in patient care, research, and medical education. The existing underground utilities were relocated outside the footprint of the new addition while the rest of the buildings on the 400-acre campus remained fully operational. Serving the hospital will be the new central utility plant, which was completed in 2004. The $10.5 million, 15,000-sf plant is designed for phased construction to expand with the campus Master Plan to 2015.
