McKenzie-Willamette’s new state-of-the-art, full-service hospital will include a 24-hour Level III Trauma Center Emergency Department, as well as cardiac, medical/surgical, women’s and children’s, diagnostic, and rehabilitation services. It will open with 148 beds and include space for expansion to 256 to meet future needs. The hospital will be as green as it is modern. In keeping with the owner’s wishes, the building is registered in U.S. Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) program and is designed to achieve the Silver rating. Some of its energy-saving or eco-friendly features include: premium efficiency motors for the MEP equipment; air-to-air heat recovery systems for the make-up air systems serving the labs, sterile processing, kitchen and operating suites; CO2 monitoring; sensor-operated faucets; use of environmentally friendly refrigerants, adhesives, and sealants; and occupancy sensors and daylighting controls for lighting. The mechanical and electrical equipment employs variable frequency drives (VFDs) to accommodate fluctuating demand and provide optimum energy efficiency.
