The
new LEED Silver Peace River Elementary School features
high efficiency chillers and air handlers, low-flow faucets
and toilets, motion-activated lights, and indirect lighting
are only some of the sustainable design components. In
addition, the ceiling and vinyl floor tiles, carpeting,
filters used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning,
even the buildings structural steel framing are
all made of recyclable or renewable materials. Other sustainable
features include:
Water savings of 343,381 gallons per year.
Energy savings of 1,563 Mbtu a year.
Recycled pre- and post- consumer content value
of $1,104,693.
No chlorofluorocarbons or hydro-chlorofluorocarbons
refrigerants used, so zero ozone depletion potential.
Zero potable water used for landscape irrigation.
Constructed on the same site as the original Peace
River Elementary School.
2,437 cubic yards of construction waste diverted
from landfill.
Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood products
were used to encourage environmentally responsible forest
management.
Green housekeeping program instituted for the entire
school district.
