The new LEED Silver Peace River Elementary School features high efficiency chillers and air handlers, low-flow faucets and toilets, motion-activated lights, and indirect lighting are only some of the sustainable design components. In addition, the ceiling and vinyl floor tiles, carpeting, filters used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning, even the building’s structural steel framing are all made of recyclable or renewable materials. Other sustainable features include:
• Water savings of 343,381 gallons per year.
• Energy savings of 1,563 Mbtu a year.
• Recycled pre- and post- consumer content value of $1,104,693.
• No chlorofluorocarbons or hydro-chlorofluorocarbons refrigerants used, so zero ozone depletion potential.
• Zero potable water used for landscape irrigation.
• Constructed on the same site as the original Peace River Elementary School.
• 2,437 cubic yards of construction waste diverted from landfill.
• Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood products were used to encourage environmentally responsible forest management.
• Green housekeeping program instituted for the entire school district.
