Parrish Medical Center’s Port St. John Health Center and Nature Preserve is the first health care facility in Florida to achieve certification in the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) green building program. The building achieved LEED Silver certification. Port St. John offers a healing environment in every sense of the word, thanks to environmentally sensitive planning and design. The water-efficient, energy-efficient building sits amid four acres that have been set aside permanently as a nature preserve complete with walking trails.TLC worked closely with the design team and sustainable design consultant to provide efficient and cost-effective MEP and energy modeling services. Annually, the building is expected to realize an 18% savings in energy use and a 31% savings in water use over a typical non-LEED building. In addition, 63% of waste materials were recycled rather than ending up in a landfill.
