Healthcare Engineers Lead ASHRAE Student Tour
1-27-10
|
|
On
Sunday, Jan. 24, more than 200 engineering students
from all over the U.S. who are taking part in
the ASHRAE Student Design Competition toured the
Energy Office Building and Ginsburg Tower at Florida
Hospital's Orlando campus that TLC's Healthcare
Division designed. Principal and Senior Project
Manager Mark Costello, PE, and Principal and Senior
Electrical Engineer Chris Mouer, PE, assisted
by Florida Hospital staff and some local and national
ASHRAE members, led those tours. The students
were in Orlando for the ASHRAE/AHR Annual Meeting
and Trade Show occurring at the Orange County
Convention Center/Shingle Creek Resort. The student
design project this year is focused on energy
efficient healthcare HVAC design and is modeled
conceptually on the Ginsburg Tower's architectural
floor plan, thus the tour provided a resoundingly

TLC Co-Founder Passes Away at Age 82
1-27-10
|
|
With the death of John Tilden on Jan. 20, TLC
Engineering for Architecture has lost the co-founder
of the firm. John started the firm in 1955 and
continued to practice as a structural engineer
until his retirement in 1992. During his career
he was the engineer of record on many projects
around Orlando and Central Florida. Between 1955
and 1992, the firm grew from very modest beginnings
to more than 100 people in four offices, including
one in Cleveland, Ohio. In early 1991 as John
was planning his retirement, there were five shareholders.
Today 55 of our staff are owners. That growth
which sprang from John's early start has continued
to drive TLC to its present staff of 300 in 10
offices. More than 30 staff from 1992 remain at
TLC and remember John as a friend and colleague.
John was held in high regard by colleagues around
the state and the many architects and building
owners for whom he provided engineering services.
