As the first project in Flolrida to be LEED certified by the U.S. Green Building Council, Lynn Business Center is a showpiece of sustainability, combining environmentally sensitive planning, siting, architectural design, and engineered building systems. The project involved gutting a six-story former bank building to create spaces for classes, meetings, conferences, presentations, and faculty offices. The central atrium carved through each floor bathes the building in natural light. Three smaller adjacent buildings house a 200-seat lecture hall and additional flex-use spaces. The new home of Stetson University’s School of Business Administration is equipped with state-of-art electronics including high-resolution document cameras, ceiling-mounted projectors, computers with CD/DVD players and network connections, quality sound systems and touch panel audio/video controls. The final design reflects a calculated energy-use reduction of 32% compared with ASHRAE minimum standards and is well above Florida’s energy code requirements.
