TLC Services
Fundamental and enhanced commissioning

The new Research and Academic Center will enable the University of Florida to establish collaborative relationships with the Burnham Institute, Lake Nona “Medical City” institutions and other research institutes around the state to continue and complement research initiatives. A unique component of the center is the Comprehensive Drug Development Center. Featuring a clean room environment, the CDDC will formulate small molecule pharmaceuticals that are the initial product of clinical trials and help enable production capabilities of viable drug products.TLC provided full-service commissioning services to meet both the LEED fundamental commissioning prerequisite and the enhanced commissioning point requirement. Systems that were commissioned included the building envelope, energy-related systems, lighting and day lighting controls, domestic water systems and building automation controls.Other specialty systems that were commissioned involved innovative mechanical systems designed to significantly reduce building energy consumption. These systems included an active chilled beam system; make-up air systems with both plate-type heat exchangers and total energy (enthalpic) type recovery wheels; and water-to-water heat recovery chillers to reduce reheat demands. Electrical systems included emergency power systems, day lighting control systems, energy-efficiency laboratory direct/indirect fixtures, dual-level switching capabilities and individual room occupancy sensors.
