Integrating education, patient care and research is the goal of the Clinical Research Building at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital Campus. Each of the 15 floors includes a reception area, a library, large and small conference rooms, and offices for senior faculty. The building is home to many innovative programs including the world-renowned Center for Research in Medical Education which provides training for emergency medical personnel around the globe. The building's two-level Wellness Center is an exercise area that opens into an atrium and features state-of-the-art equipment, a reception area, food court, a floating stairway to the second floor and a wall of windows overlooking Miami. Energy efficiency, water efficiency, and indoor air quality were key goals in the design of the mechanical and electrical systems. Under-floor air distribution allows for easy access to the HVAC, electrical, electronic and plumbing utility systems; under-floor air ventilation helps reduce fan energy; and high-performance, window glazing helps lessen the HVAC load. The building is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council for LEED®-NC v2.2. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
