The
new West Kendall Baptist Hospital will provide needed
services to the growing community on the southeast edge
of the Everglades. It will also serve as the Florida International
University School of Medicine teaching hospital for Kendall-area
family doctors. Located on a 30-acre site in Kendall Town
Center, the four-story hospital will have 80 licensed
acute-care inpatient beds and 54 outpatient/observation
beds. Clinical services including outpatient diagnostics
and imaging will be conveniently located on the first
floor, while patient beds will be on two, three, and four.
All patient rooms will be private and will be designed
as universal patient rooms, that is, flexible enough to
serve in many capacities. Three 900-ton, high-efficiency
centrifugal chillers will provide chilled water for the
hospital and adjacent medical arts building, along with
six-cell, low-noise acoustic cooling towers on the roof
of the central plant.Fiber optics and copper structured
cabling systems serve a wide range of healthcare technology
systems including voice over IP, data network, PACs,
doctors dictation, physical monitoring, LAN, WAN,
telemedicine and a VISICU system for monitoring the ICU.
Additionally the design included CATV distribution, wireless
access throughout the hospital, nurse call, paging and
audio-visual. Security system design included coordination
and selection of surveillance video equipment, access
control, infant abduction prevention and duress alarm
system.
